No idea how to fix this upload problem.  No good docs on it, although it definitly happens to other people. For now hang tight or upload the images elsewhere (aka imageshack or flickr or something).
Okay fixed it now.  I changed a directory and forgot to reciprocate the change into the php settings for media wiki.
