Staves: A staff can have more than one charge, and tends to affect
many characters, depending on the spell. To use a staff, HOLD it, then
BRANDISH. Battle staves usually have area spells that affect all mobs
in the room, healing staves heal all players in the room, and so on.
You must be adept with the "arcane knowledge" skill to use staves.
