Gnomes typically inhabit rolling, rocky hills that are both well wooded and far from human communities. They are very similar in appearance to dwarves, and are also renowned as excellent miners. Most gnomes have earthy skin tones, whitish hair, and eyes of grey-blue to bright blue. They wear clothing of leather or earth tones, and are fond of jewelry. The typical gnome is short in stature, yet slightly stronger than a human, a little more deft, and tend to be a little bit wiser. Like their dwarven cousins they have somewhat of a resistance to magic but, unlike dwarves, tend to be above average at spellcasting. Because of their tendencies to stay away from humans, they are not completely accepted in human communities. Gnomes can see well in near darkness, an adaptation to their mining lifestyle.

Diplomatic Corps

Gnomes may participate in the Diplomatic Corps every 10 levels at lowmort. All Gnomes should report to Nranthos when they are ready to begin.

Comments

Gnome hp pools are small, and have no damage modifier or armor, making them poor brutes.

Gnomes have good racial stealth, but not as good as halflings. Lacking ability to do much melee damage, they make suboptimal stabbers.

Archery-wise, gnomes do not have modifiers.

Gnomes have a 5% racial spell cost reduction bonus. On top of that, gnomes have an arcane spell cost reduction bonus of 1/48, or 2.0833%. They are also no-fail at 97% and have solid mana pools, though not as large as elven or some other races.

Their strength lies here - being low TNL to level fast, and wise enough to be able to grab the wizard prestige class, makes them a cheaper alternative to centaurs for those wishing to walk this path with a creatable race. Their low TNL also makes them a solid starting point for any sprite (caster) remort goal, though drow and elves might be also considered for this.
