These faeries have long been regarded as the peaceful guardians of the forest and respected by all. Their extreme magical nature and intelligence counteracts their weakness in stature and stamina. In the past their place has been solely the forest, but as the population has grown, and settlements have dug into their homeland, some have found the need to leave their homes and seek out goals... or revenge against those who may have forced them out. Sprites are extremely potent spellcasters. They can cast spells more effectively than just about any other race found in this realm. They are quick of wit, and extremely fast on their feet as well. They are physically the weakest of the races in this realm however, and though they may not get hit often, no damage they take can be considered to be light. Sprites all have the racial ability to dodge attacks, and have the innate ability to fly as well. Sprites can be quite mischievous, and have all developed the ability to turn invisible at will. This race is only available through remort.

  • Abbreviation: Spr.

*Must attain prestige before remort.

Diplomatic Corps

Sprites may participate in the Diplomatic Corps every 10 levels at lowmort. All Sprites should report to Esseirt'u when they are ready to begin.

Comments

Sprites get a 25% reduction in all spell costs, are "nofail" at 90%, and have very fast mana regeneration. They have tremendous mana gains, the highest of any race in game, so they make natural casters of any flavor. (Technically, sprites have identical mana gains to High Elves and Dragons, but due to cheaper spells - 25% reduction as opposed to 15% for HiE and Drg - means they have larger effective mana pools). They have a negative melee damage modifier.

Being very small, sprites also receive bonuses within the fusilier class as most of the enemies range from small to very large - so sprites gain bonuses against all these. They also have a small archery modifier.

Sprite stealth is comparable to a human.

Sprites are recommended to those players that are able to cope with very small hp gains - sprites have one of the smallest hp pools, regardless of class, among all races. This can be somewhat mitigated by worshipping hp increasing gods, like wer, qxl and rxa at hero.

To compensate, sprites are very good at dodging, as their racial dodge stacks with the skill Dodge (effect also called "double dodge").

Their low hp can mean they are vulnerable to area spells. However, since they're size very small, area spells do less damage to them.

Last but not least, Arcana Excelsis Grand Library has this to say about sprites:

This slim book does not look very professionally bound.

"...main problem with sprites is their popularity as a source of
barbecued meat. Travelling around Midgaardia, one can hardly greet
four passers by in a row without one of them offering you some kind
of roasted sprite. This could be a strong factor in the decline of
number of sprites seen commonly across the lands today. Another..."
