Years ago, the standard way to complete a quest was to obtain one or more tickets, either from killing a mob or finding it in a room, deduce which mob to give it to (though you might have been told already), then receive a reward in exchange for the ticket. A ticket is always destined for a specific mob, and no other mob will ever accept it!

See Tickets for tickets involved, and Ticket Quest Rewards for items obtained from these quests.

Now that mobs are more scriptable, quests can take many forms that don't involve tickets at all. This can make it harder to determine whether or not you're in posession of a quest-related item, but in many of these quests mobiles will explicitely say what they want you to do or get.
