This gear-changing system uses up to four different containers, most often the following four: one for a full set of tanking gear, one for a full set of hitting gear, one for a full set of mana gear, and one for all miscellaneous gear. This last category of gear would include items like leveling gear, stealth gear, rogue tools, fletching kits, Bowie knives, whetstones, and so forth.

Benefits of using this system

  • You don't need to rewrite these aliases when you get a new piece of gear.
  • You don't need to think about what gear you are currently wearing when you use any alias.
  • You don't need to worry about any items being put in the wrong bag.
  • You don't need to worry about any items being worn in the wrong slot.

Detriments of using this system

  • You do need to etch each and every individual piece of gear involved.
  • You may not be able to use items that you receive that have already been etched.
  • You will produce lots of spam every time that you use some of these aliases.

Example Etchings

Here are suggested keywords to etch on both containers and gear using this system:

  • tankgearbag: a container for a full set of tanking gear.
    • tankgear-l: a tanking light.
    • tankgear-h0: a tanking wielded weapon for rogues, such as a Sharp Dagger Named 'Poison'.
    • tankgear-h1: a tanking wielded weapon.
    • tankgear-h2: a tanking shield.
    • tankgear-x: a tanking held-item.
    • tankgear-c: any item of tanking gear that is not a light, weapon, shield, or held-item.
  • archgearbag: a container for a full set of archery gear.
    • archgear-l: an archery light.
    • archgear-hg: a longbow for grouping
    • archgear-hs: a crossbow for soloing.
    • archgear-c: any item of archery gear that is not a light or weapon.
  • hitgearbag: a container for a full set of hitting gear.
    • hitgear-l: a hitting light.
    • hitgear-h1: a hitting wielded weapon.
    • hitgear-h2: a hitting offhand weapon.
    • hitgear-h3: a hitting shield for bashing, such as a Black and Silver Shield.
    • hitgear-x: a hitting held-item.
    • hitgear-c: any item of hitting gear that is not a light, weapon, shield, or held-item.
  • managearbag: a container for a full set of mana gear.
    • managear-l: a mana light.
    • managear-h1: a mana wielded weapon
    • managear-h2: a mana offhand weapon.
    • managear-h3: a mana shield for bashing, such as an Adamantite Shield.
    • managear-x: a mana held-item.
    • managear-c: any item of mana gear that is not a light, weapon, shield, or held-item.

All tanking gear could be etched simply as tankgear, and so forth, to allow for simpler aliases; however, using these variants shown above provides some advantages, as in the following examples: (1) etching lights like this can help psionicists to create effective torching aliases; (2) etching weapons and shields like this can help to ensure that these items are always equipped in their proper slots and whatnot; and (3) etching held items like this may help rogues to create effective more aliases for using some of their skills and tools.

Please note that these keywords listed on this page are only suggested and that similar sets of keywords should work equally well. In fact, it may be best for each player to use unique sets of etched keywords in order to help reduce possible confusion (in certain circumstances) over who owns what gear.

Example Aliases

Here are suggested aliases to change gear that is etched as suggested above:

This first group of aliases above may be very easily edited for characters that use only one or two sets of gear instead of three by simply deleting all irrelevant commands from them.
