Some mobs, while not necessarily aggressive, may attack you if they notice you attacking their fellow mobs, or they may attack eachother if you attack one of them.
This sometimes depends on your alignment. If a mob assists at all, a good mob will usually assist against you if you are evil or against the mob you're attacking if your alignment is higher. This goes vice versa for evil mobs.
