By turning his shield into an offensive weapon, a person may be able to inflict greater damage with his sword until the opponent regains its feet. Spellcasters, it should be noted, cannot cast spells while sprawled out on the ground as a result of being bashed. A person's dexterity helps to play a role in the successful bashing of opponents, and it should be noted that attempting to shield-bash an opponent whose level is much greater than your own is rarely a good idea...
