Every AVATAR MUD mob may be of one or more types, most of which are coded as either its "act flags" or "specials" by area builders. Many, though not all, of these types are listed here. Some types that are not listed include those that behave like members of certain classes, such as those that cast defensive or offensive spells during combat, and also those that "breathe" one or a variety of damaging natural phenomena.

Mob types of particular interest include etchers, healers, identifiers, shopkeepers, smiths, and trainers.
