This spell creates a ball of light which you can hold as a light source. It isn't much, and it certainly won't last forever, but it beats fumbling around in the dark, especially if there are things there that plan to eat you.

Prerequisite(s): none.

Syntax: cast 'magic light' <character>.

This spell can be quite handy for characters who can not yet obtain or hold a permanent light source (such as an orb of faerie magic) and who do not wish to buy temporary ones. It can also be handy for characters who die in dark places after level ?? (when Tul-Sith quits giving lights to dead players) and then try to retrieve their gear on their own.
